The Zonta Club of Gawler, in conjunction with the Gawler Domestic Violence Network, are planning a commemorative space dedicated to the courage of those women who have suffered from domestic violence and abuse. Horrified by the statistic that one women per week is murdered in Australia by a current or former partner, and around one child per fortnight is killed by a parent, we have decided to act. We all have a part to play in addressing this problem. Gawler will not look the other way but instead commemorate the courageous women and children who have lost their lives to domestic violence. That is why we are planning to create a six-panel mosaic mural in a newly opened park near Walker and Julian Terrace. A respected Gawler mosaic artist will be overseeing the project.
Members of the community will be invited to contribute to the mural by helping to make a mosaic flower for the mural.
We have costed this project at $15,000 and are currently fundraising to make the mural a reality. We can accept donations directly to our club (please contact us) or you can donate to our crowdfunding ‘Chuffed’ fundraiser by clicking on the link here.
